"The Pintados Project is collaborative documentary film dedicated to preserving Filipino cultural heritage. The project follows a Filipina-American woman [Fassio] as she ventures back to her mother's homeland seeking to uncover the legacy left by her ancestors, the group of tattooed warriors nicknamed by the Spanish Conquistadors as "Los Pintados", the Painted Ones.
The film is an exploration into Filipino identity and spirit, taking an intimate look at this culture through the eyes of individuals who are using ancient traditions as modern-day expressions of cultural pride. The Director of the film, and protagonist, being a Filipina-American, will share her own quest and through her desire to connect with her roots she discovers that she's not alone in this endeavor, that there is a growing revival and resurgence of interest amongst her generation of Filipinos born abroad who wish to identify with their heritage..."
Watching the trailer gives me chills every time those words are heard and read, resonating with all of the unfolding raw emotions that have come from a sense of ancestral separation derived trauma.
But as of the date of this post, February 16, 2014 there is no sign of the documentary anywhere.
I am pleased to find more and more projects like this springing up.
